Meeting on Mental Health Situation Assessment in Myanmar

Meeting on Mental Health Situation Assessment in Myanmar was organized at University of Public Health on 6th March 2018. It was attended by the rector, professors and associate professors from University of Public health, representatives from Mental Health Society and Mental Health Project and representatives from HelpAge International.

Opening speech was delivered by Prof Khay Mar Mya, rector of University of Public Health. Dr Tej Ram Jat, Programme Manager Public Health from HelpAge International also delivered welcome remarks. The objectives of the meeting were to discuss accomplished activities and next steps to proceed qualitative part and get inputs and suggestions on especially from mental health experts.

In this meeting, Prof Cho Mar Kaung Myint, Professor/Head of Department of Health Behavior and Communication, University of Public Health presented on the main findings of pilot study of qualitative part of mental health situation assessment in Thone Gwa Township and explained about next steps of mental health qualitative study. Then, all participants including professors and representatives from Mental Health Society and Mental Health contributed their suggestions on next steps of mental health qualitative assessment mainly on selection of study areas and study population.
